The Centre for Market Research and Consumer Protection held a panel discussion entitled “Iraqi Universities and Sustainable Development”, which was convened by Associate Professor Nebras Mohammed Abdul Rasoul, Head of Commodity Evaluation and Service Performance at the Centre for Market Research and Consumer Protection/Baghdad University, at 10 a.m. on Monday 2023 p.m.
Summary of the workshop:

The 17 sustainable development goals are integrated and work in one area will affect results in others, and development must balance social, economic and environmental sustainability. By pledging to leave no one behind, countries have committed to accelerating progress for those behind. This is why the sustainable development goals are designed to make the world zero in many changing aspects of life, including extreme poverty, hunger, AIDS and discrimination against women and girls. Everyone needs to reach these ambitious goals. Through research, creativity, knowledge, technology and financial resources are essential to achieving sustainable development goals in each axis. Therefore, universities and colleges have sought to achieve sustainable development goals by holding seminars, workshops and conferences that spread the culture of achieving sustainable development goals and by holding voluntary campaigns and humanitarian assistance to achieve these goals as well as attention to campus and green spaces.

The aim of the seminar was to identify the objectives of sustainable development and its achievement by some Iraqi state and private universities.

Discussion and conclusions:

We note that most Iraqi universities seek to achieve the objectives of sustainable development in one way or another through their initiatives to achieve the objectives of sustainability, which in turn elevates the University’s relevance in international classifications, including research, studies and partnership with the private sector, as well as holding conferences and symposiums on the same subject.

Recommendations:

Providing support in all its forms to universities and colleges for the purpose of achieving sustainable development goals in line with the University’s role in serving the community and striving to implement each of the goals by connecting the University with the community and the private sector to achieve the goals as full as possible. A table of sustainable development goals on the official website of the University explains what has been achieved and how to achieve them while updating the table periodically.
